Finally… I printed something for "Kiyan"

For a while now, I've been hesitant about deciding to print a work from this series. I didn't want it to be an ordinary print or just a digital copy, because some works despite the beauty of their digital existence feel like they refuse to remain only that.

So what happened?

I brought in the beloved artist @samaralmalki, and drawing on her experience in printmaking, we began the search for a method worthy of the piece. After experimentation, we arrived at a hybrid style that preserves the image's quality and detail to a very high degree, while still allowing it to be printed by hand.

We made the templates, and the printing journey began.

The process took four days of work, preceded by two full days of preparation and testing. In between, there was a whole journey with the always-brilliant Mohammed Al-Ansari, @_alestudio, during which we ran many tests on different types of paper until we reached the one that felt like it truly belonged to this printing method.

And then we began printing.

This journey started at the studio of artist Dr. Ahmed Mater, @ahmedmater, who was hugely supportive of this experience — his presence and support played an important role in reaching this stage.

And of course, documenting a journey like this couldn't happen without a friend's eye, @moaath_alyahya1.

Thank you for your eye, my friend.

I came out of this experience with greater certainty and deep gratitude.

This isn't just a print of a work from "Kayan" — it's the beginning of a new way I think about turning an image into something else… something that can be touched, that can change, and that carries the mark of the hand and of time.

And this will, God willing, be the beginning of a series of works produced this way.

I leave you with the journey.
